This update introduces a new MainLevel event along with a number of backend improvements and balance adjustments.
As always, these changes are part of our ongoing development as a small, part-time team – we appreciate your continued support and feedback as we iterate (:

Contents

✈️ New: Airdrop Events

Airdrops have been added to MainLevel as a new dynamic event.

  • Airdrops occur at random intervals (approximately every 30–90 minutes)
  • Two airdrops are deployed per event filled with loot
  • Drops are focused further north (away from coastal spawn areas)
  • A plane flyover audio cue will signal incoming drops

This system is still in its early stages and may be adjusted based on feedback.

⚙️ Optimizations & Stability

We’ve made several backend improvements aimed at smoothing gameplay, especially during heavier server load:

  • Improved stability in certain AI types
  • Reduced unnecessary background processing in some AI/spawner systems
  • Limited worst-case workload during heavy spawn calculations
  • Made POI scanning more incremental to help distribute server load more evenly

These changes are part of ongoing performance work and will continue to be refined.

🧪 In Development

  • Added an early Teleporter Blueprint
  • Not currently active in gameplay
  • Part of internal testing for future systems
  • Shares underlying logic with the existing ladder/mount system (shoutout Cweepa)

🛠️ Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where sewer audio cues could be heard above ground

⚖️ Balance Changes

Civilian AI Balance Changes:

  • Ammo reduced by ~50%
  • Bullet damage reduced from 15 → 10
  • Reduced overall food spawn rates

Notes

We’re continuing to test and iterate on systems like airdrops and AI behavior. Some values and mechanics may change as we gather more feedback and performance data.
If something feels off or you run into issues, please let us know – it genuinely helps us improve the game.

As always, thank you survivors!

ZSGO developers meetup and smiling together.

Ever since I built my first PC to play custom zombie maps on 'Call of Duty: World at War,' I knew PC gaming would be a huge part of my life. My passion for zombies didn't just stop there—I grew up playing iconic games on my PlayStation 2 and 3, like 'Resident Evil 5,' 'Dead Rising,' 'The Walking Dead,' 'Fallout,' 'Bioshock,' and the 'Sly' series. However, once I switched to PC, there was no looking back; my PlayStations found their way into storage, and my heart stayed with PC gaming.

My love for survival games deepened with 'Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead’s DayZ' mod, where fate had me meet Dev Ear and Dev SuperPoggers atop the triple yellow in Cherno. A simple meetup on TeamSpeak turned into a lifelong friendship. We've traveled across states—from California to Florida—bonding over countless survival games like 'Rust Legacy' and 'WarZ.' Our adventures led us to run our own Rust servers and Minecraft communities, even tinkering with game development tools like Unity and Unreal Engine.

Our shared dreams and dedication have culminated in the creation of ZSGO, our ultimate zombie survival game. Bringing our collective expertise and creativity to the table, we're committed to crafting an unforgettable gaming experience that stands out in the survival genre.
